About Us

Friends of Libraries and Literacy, Rio Rancho, Inc. is an all-volunteer, public 501(c)(3) non-profit charity incorporated in 1982. The Friends support libraries and fund literacy programs for children, teens and adults in Sandoval County, New Mexico using money raised through the sale of community-donated books and media at FriendShop and FriendShop Too!. Money and items donated to the Friends are tax deductible to the extent of the law. Receipts for donations are available in FriendShop.

The Friends are not part of the Rio Rancho City Government or the Rio Rancho Public Libraries. It is a completely separate non-profit with its own membership and Board of Directors.

FriendShop

The Friends of Libraries and Literacy FriendShop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. It has thousands of books, recent magazines, jigsaw puzzles, DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs and LPs for sale. All profits are used to support libraries and fund literacy programs in Sandoval County, New Mexico.

Thousands of gently-used books and media are for sale; many are like new.

Located on the north side of the Target/Albertson’s center off NM 528 (Pat d’Arco Highway), the FriendShop is at 4300 Ridgecrest Drive #J/K, Rio Rancho NM. (The shop is on the Albertson’s Market end of the center, around the corner from Papa John’s Pizza.)

ISBN scanners and cell-phone scan apps in silent mode are allowed in the FriendShop but using them must not interfere with, or annoy, other browsers.

Friends’ members receive an additional 10% discount off already low prices by presenting their current Friends’ membership card at checkout. Cash and most charge cards are accepted.

Friends’ membership forms and dues payment are gladly accepted at the check-out desk. There you can also fill out a volunteer form if you would like to volunteer at either shop..

FriendShop Too!

FriendShop Too! has paperback and hardback fiction for adults, teens and children. There is also a non-fiction section with history, cookbooks, home & garden, biography and more. Adult and teen books are $2 for paperbacks and $3 for hardbacks. Children’s books are 25¢.

FriendShop Too! is on the upper floor of the Martha Liebert Public Library in Bernalillo NM. FriendShop Too! is open when the library is open: Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm; Saturday from 9 am to noon.

Because there is often no clerk, purchases are cash only.
