Donations of gently-used books, recent magazines, jigsaw puzzles, comic books and manga, audio books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Encyclopedias, VHS tapes and damaged books can not be accepted.

Donations are mostly sold at the FriendShop or at FriendShop Too!. A few selected books are sold online.

Donations can be dropped at the FriendShop during business hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm). For large donations, call 505-892-READ (7323) during business hours or email “info at-sign folrr dot org” to set up a time for a volunteer to pick up the donation.

Volunteer

With no paid staff, the Friends only exists because of the dedicated efforts of our volunteers. Donate your time and talents and join a great group of people who are enthusiastic about books, libraries, reading, and literacy.

Volunteer forms are available at the FriendShop in Rio Rancho and at the FriendShop Too in the Martha Liebert Public Library. You can also get this Adobe PDF volunteer form and either drop it off at the FriendShop or email it to info at-sign folrr dot org.

There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities:

  • Price and sort: Mondays from 9 AM to about 11 AM or from 1 PM to about 3 PM the books, magazines, jigsaw puzzles and media that were donated during the previous week are sorted and priced at the FriendShop. If you would like to get involved, fill out the volunteer form.
  • Staffing the FriendShop: Volunteers staff the FriendShop from 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Shifts are two or three hours long. Email us for more information or fill out the volunteer form.
  • Refilling FriendShop Too!: The FriendShop Too! inside Bernalillo’s Martha Liebert Public Library needs to have shelves refilled about twice a week. If you have an hour or two each week, fill out the volunteer form.
  • Selling online: In addition to the FriendShop, Friends sell selected high-value books on Amazon and eBay. Email us for more information or fill out the volunteer form.
  • Books for Babies: The Friends distribute Books for Babies kits free of charge to new parents at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, Lovelace Westside Hospital and at WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children). The kits are available in English and Spanish.

  • RSVP: Volunteers age 55 or above may be eligible to participate in the Sandoval County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Volunteers accepted into the County-sponsored program may receive some compensation.

Donations made to the Friends, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit corporation, are tax-deductible.
