Donations of gently-used books, recent magazines, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. Encyclopedias, VHS tapes and damaged books can not be accepted.

Donations are mostly sold in the FriendShop. A few selected books are sold online.

Donations can be dropped at the FriendShop during business hours. For large donations, call or email to set up a time for a volunteer to pick up the donation.

With no paid staff, the Friends only exists because of the dedicated efforts of our volunteers. Donate your time and talents and join a great group of people who are enthusiastic about books, libraries, reading, and literacy.

There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities:

  • Price and sort: Mondays from 9 AM to about 11 AM and from 1 PM to about 3 PM the books, magazines, CDs and DVDs that were donated during the previous week are sorted and priced at the FriendShop. If you would like to get involved, email the price-and-sort coordinator for more information.
  • Staffing the FriendShop: Volunteers staff the FriendShop from 10 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Shifts are two or three hours long. Email us for more information.
  • Selling online: In addition to the FriendShop, Friends sell selected high-value books on Amazon and eBay. Email us for more information.
  • Books for Babies: The Friends distribute Books for Babies kits free of charge to new parents at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, Lovelace Westside Hospital and at WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children). The kits are available in English and Spanish.
